Day 6 Sambin - Montrichard - Sambin (277 Km.)
(in 14 km) Montrichard: After several busy days, we took a little rest day. We drove to the nearby town of Montrichard where we rented canoes to paddle for half an hour over the calm waters of the river Cher. For 24 Euros we rent canoes for 4 people. It was long enough to move to the small dam upstream and there to pass under the mediaval bridge of the town, located beneath the castle. P>
The Bridge on the River Cher still retains its medieval style. It enters the city through the bridge through the door of Spain, which includes a set of two towers. Three of the central arches were restored in 1941. In 1944 the bridge was mined by German troops but was saved in an operation conducted by the local resistance. Other monuments to be highlighted are the church of Notre-Dame de Nanteuil (twelfth century) and the Church of the Holy Cross (Église Ste-Croix) of the 16th century, at the foot of the castle. The tourist office is located in the beautiful Maison de l´Ave-Maria.
The Château of Montrichard was built early eleventh century by the Count of Anjou. Today the fortress is in ruins.
(in 14 Km.) We come back to Sambin.
