Day 9 Bryce Canyon - Monument Valley (474 Km.)

Bryce Canyon N.P.: The Bryce Canyon National Park is not just a canyon but a dozen small gullies eroded into the east side of the mountain range, on the shores of Paunsaugunt Plateau in southwest Utah. This erosion has resulted in thousands of bizarre and fragile formations of rock in several shades of pink, white, yellow and red, was given this name to the park in honor of Ebenezer Bryce, a farmer who was the Mormon first inhabitant of the modern era in the region. The park is located about 410 kms (270 miles) south of Salt Lake City. It is 125 kms (85 miles) northeast of Zion National Park.

At Bryce Canyon can be reached by the scenic route UT 12, which crosses the northeast corner of the park. The entrance road is divided into the south, follow the gullies by 29 kms and you´ll find 14 different points that they have made so famous at Bryce Canyon, from there you'll see the best view of the area and the great variety of rock formations. The first viewpoint is Fairyland Point, a beautiful valley with a scale version of the main canyon. This place is before the station entrance so you can admire it without paying. From the viewpoints you can see up to 160 kms to the south and east toward Lake Powell and the Grand Canyon.

The water was initially responsible for creating the rock shapes in Bryce Canyon. The rain and snow to melt down the Pink Cliffs towards the Paria River forming gullies, which were subsequently followed eroded to form caves, peaks and other forms (popularly known as "Hoodoos").
