Travel to Slovenia

Day 3 Bled - lago Bohinj - Bled (62 Km.)

(in 31 Km.) Bohinj lake: In the valley, which stretches between Bled and Bohinj, 26 km to the southwest, it is still possible to witness a rural way of life that has disappeared in most places in Europe. If your visit occurs in the fall, you will see that the field offers an abundant harvest of mushrooms and apples, nuts and tubers. The granaries are adorned with corn and the kozolec, wooden grids used to dry the hay and other crops that are part of the landscape. You can also see toplarji, double grilles exclusive of this area

Ribcev Laz

Bohinj Lake/Bohinjsko Jezero - Ribcev Laz

There are beautiful toplarji from the 18th and 19th centuries in the village of Studor, located between Lake Bohinj and Bled. In Studor it is worth visiting the Oplen building, a peasant house from the beginning of the century, converted into a museum. With its original furniture and its wood-burning stove, the Oplen building is witness to the hardness of the rural life that its inhabitants endured 100 years ago. Nearby, in Stara Fuzina, is the Alpine Dairy Farming Museum. Until the end of the fifties, the cheese was still being processed in 28 meadows of the highlands, but now everything has been modernized. However, in the small Restaurant Plansar, (about € 30) located in front of the museum, you can try a wonderful homemade cheese (fresh, or in balls called struklji) and other local specialties, such as jota (a stew of beans).

Bohinj lake

Bohinj Lake/Bohinjsko Jezero

Here is Lake Bohinj (Bohinjsko Jezero), the largest in Slovenia. Lake Bohinj is 4.2 km long and 1 km wide maximum. It is a glacial lake dammed by a moraine. Bohinj is a quiet and hidden place. On the outskirts of Ribcev Laz is the church dedicated to John the Baptist. It is surrounded by a wall of the old cemetery. Its origins are Romanesque, but it was rebuilt in Gothic style in the 15th century.

Although from below the views of the lake are beautiful, it is worth climbing to the ski resort of Vogel. Take the Ukanc cable car that ascends to the top of Mount Voguel, the best viewpoint in the park. Follow the road that runs along the lake to the cable car station. The fee of the cable car for an adult it is 10 euros but the view is worth it. The cable car is taken at Žicnice Vogel Bohinj, D.D Ukanc 6.

We continue to the Savica waterfall, with a fee of € 2.40 per adult, € 1.20 for children. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the waterfall, but the road is full of steps. This waterfall, 60 meters high, is the source of the river Sava, a tributary of the Danube in the capital of Serbia, Belgrade. There is another smaller waterfall 25 meters high. Both waterfalls give the whole a form of A. You get there by car from Ukanc (4 km) and you must park in Koca pri Savici.
