Travel to France
Day 1 Barcelona - Millau - Sambin (903 Km.)
We left at 5 am to avoid by one side the heat of the hours of sunshine and above all avoid the traffic delays of the begining of the vacations. We have just under 9-hour drive ahead. We made several stops at rest areas on French motorways. Among these were the "Aire du Viaduc de Millau", which, in addition to rest, we made a little visit. Next to the service area is a viewpoint and walking about 10 minutes we arrive to a second viewpoint located on the hill just at one end of the bridge.
(in 399 Km.) Millau viaduct: The Millau Viaduct consists of an eight-span steel roadway supported by seven concrete pylons. The pylons range in height from 77 m (253 ft) to 246 m (807 ft), and taper in their longitudinal section from 24.5 m (80 ft) at the base to 11 m (36 ft) at the deck. The bridge structure reaches a maximum height of 343 meters above the river Tarn, and a length of 2,460 meters. On this trip we crossed over the bridge (toll road). On a previous trip we crossed below the bridge (view photos).
(in 504 Km.) Sambin: We arrived at the gite where we spent the whole week. Before coming to the gîte, we stop to buy in Contres, in an Intermaché to stock up for the week and to fill the gas tank in these centers that is much cheaper than on the highway. The gîte was very spacious and had a garden with children's games, ping pong, table football, barbecue.
