Day 10 Amman - Bethany Beyond the Jordan - Amman (119 Km.)

Amman: We started the day by shopping at the Al-Sukar souk, located in the heart of Amman, right in front of the entrance gate of the Nymphaeum. It is one of the most traditional and vibrant markets in the city. This bustling bazaar is known for its colourful stalls offering a wide variety of products, from fresh fruits and vegetables to aromatic spices, dried fruits and nuts and local sweets. The souk is a reflection of everyday Jordanian life, where locals and visitors mingle in an atmosphere full of energy and authenticity. Its name, which means "sugar market", underlines its tradition as an essential trading place for the city. Here you can find typical products such as dates, tahini and local herbs, ideal for bringing a piece of Jordan home.

The Al-Husseini Mosque, located next to the bustling Bukhariyeh Market in the heart of downtown Amman, is an iconic Ottoman-style landmark that reflects Jordan's rich history. Built in 1924 by Amir Abdullah bin al-Hussein on the foundations of an ancient 7th-century mosque, this Islamic monument is surrounded by the bustling gold souk, whose shops and alleyways vibrate with local energy. The mosque was restored in 1987, giving it back its characteristic pink and white stone appearance, combining tradition with a surprisingly modern feel. The site is notable not only for its spirituality, but also for its location on a site that in Byzantine times housed the Philadelphia Cathedral, a testament to the city's rich religious heritage.
